A House of Cards

I have approximately 172 other blog posts I should be writing right now.

About Christmas. And cloth diapers. And mom guilt. And the fact that I'm pretty sure my daughter's schedule is so far out of whack thanks to the long holiday weekend that we'll likely never get it back on track.

But not today.

That will all have to wait.

Because today, I am "that mom," who is going to pepper her social networking pages with gobs of gratuitous photos of her child whether her readers like it or not.

As my child is adorable, I feel it is my prerogative.

And also because it's my blog, so I can do what I want.

And also because my child hasn't slept through the night in, well, ever. Because she doesn't. She laughs at the mere thought of waking up less than three times throughout the night-time hours these days. Darn, 6-month growth-spurt.

In other words, I'm probably balding as you read this, and the odds I'll have a chance to even proof-read this post are slim to none.

Furthermore, I am in no place to pen jaunty witticisms and advice about cloth-diapering.

I have too much on my plate right now.

Not to mention the fact that I - gasp! - still haven't finished my Christmas cards.

I know, I know. All of you crazy people who have all your Christmas shopping, shipping, and schlepping done by July can pick up your jaws now.

I am, as they say, an epic fail. Woefully behind. A big, fat loser.

But enough. I'm desperately trying to shake off my woebegone-ness, and I am currently in the process of designing, addressing, and mailing out my Christmas cards this week.

So this is where you come in.

Remember when I said that we had a little photoshoot this weekend? Of Ella's 6-month photos? Specifically for the Christmas card?

Yeah, that.

Well, the photos are back, and I love them all, and gosh darn it! My kid is so cute that I now have no idea what to do.

So, today, I need your help.

I need you to pick a photo.

And, if you're feeling the creative spirit coming on, caption it.

Give it a title. Or a name. Or something I can write on the Christmas card with it besides the usual "Merry Christmas!"

Please. I'm begging you.

Especially before the aforementioned adorable infant under my roof kills every last dilapidated mommy brain cell I have left.

It has been pointed out to me by the experts that be - ahem, you know who you are - that our first family Christmas card should likely have our family on it.

Seeing as how I just adore photos of myself - only not! - I have begrudgingly began considering the possibility.

If I do use one of all of us, it will probably be the following:
Because a) it's not horrendous of the hubs or myself, and b) because I like the lighting in it. In fact, if it didn't include my thighs, I'd likely love it.

But there you have it. The above photo may be on the card, as well, just in case you creative types would like to work it into your catchy little caption and/or greeting, for which, of course, I will be eternally grateful.

Heck, I may just send you a Christmas card as a token of my affection.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Be back tomorrow withe aforementioned cloth-diapering post!

I like #4 and #5 and your family picture. Maybe you could use all three, the two Ella pics on the side and the family pic in the middle?

They are all so cute though, I can see why you have a hard time choosing.

I don't have any great captions/greetings, sorry. I think less is more, a simple Merry Christmas is good enough.

Thanks for sharing your pictures!

I love #5! What a sweet face, and an awesome moment caught on film! I also really like the family picture.

Good luck! :)

#3 & #7 are my favorites! & your family picture is cute - my eyes never would have drifted towards your thighs in a million years if you hadn't said something. And even after you did, I still don't know what you're talking about!

I LOVE #3 and #7 because every child should have some shot in their world that they immediately hide or cover with their hands when they grow up. And also?? THOSE rolls are just so darn cute!!

So why don't you do the three of you and then one of those options?

I love them all too! If i had to choose, which i do because you said so, i'd go with #1 and #5 because they are such good shots of her beautiful face. With all the Christmas card layouts out there you can easily slip your family photo along side of Ella's.

I love number two with a caption about joy - maybe something like "joyful wishes for a wonderful christmas" or something. I'm not the best at coming up with nifty captions. I also love your family photo!

#7 is my fav! The family shot looks great too!

#2 says "Joy" while #5 says "Peace" :) I'm all for one word captions

#2 melts hearts for sure :)
But it think it would be priceless to include 3 or 7 with something clever like Bare-ry Christmas or something including the word tush or bum :) My suggestions are not as clever as I would like but you get the idea!

Our photo shoot for Christmas cards isn't til Friday so you are ahead of me.

And I look forward to the cloth diaper post. We're using bumgenis and we've had them for about a month. I use Charlie's Soap but they're starting to seem like they need to be stripped. However, some stuff says use diluted bleak and other stuff says not to. In your cd post can you include tips for stripping? And I know you mentioned a cd friendly diaper rash cream but I forgot the name of it. Thanks!

I meant bleach*

#2 - "Have yourself a merry little Christmas"
# 5 - "Peace on earth"

I must confess--I greatly prefer Christmas cards that have the whole family on them rather than just the kids. So because of that, my choice would be the last photo :)

Maybe the family photo and then maybe #4 or 6 with something about remembering/enjoying/discovering the wonders of the season or some such. I dunno, I can't help that christmas with a baby is going to be a bit magical -- so that's the direction I'm headed with our cards, but we haven't gotten our pictures back yet.

look at her rolls! sooo cute.

i like #5.
but i also really like your family photo.

and please. DO NOT feel bad about not including the whole 'family' on the photo, if you choose a pic of just her.
besides, nobody really wants to see you guys anyway nowadays, right? its always about the baby. :)

(and i say that with all the love in my heart)

Really? Your making us choose? They all so cute! But I guess my fav's are 3-5 and your family pic! Usually Im good at coming up with captions. I might need time to think though :)

#2 for sure! That is one fantastic smile!! And I have to agree a family picture should make a cameo somewhere on your cards. Kids only Christmas cards kinda drive me bonkers! (But I'm no expert!)

I LOVE # 5. And the family pic. I'll try to think of something clever to say, but I'm not really that clever, unless you want something flippant and borderline insulting to send to your loved ones.

#3 and the family photo are my personal faves.

I like #4...she looks adorable in all them but I can see her being like 'Are You There Santa/Jesus, It's Me Ella' in that pic :)

Okay seriously I love them all. But 4 is my favorite. The lighting is awesome. The family picture is great too but if you don't want to use it then don't! It is your card! And not going to lie, when I saw number 6, all I could think was "Rolling your way with Christmas Joy!" or something like that ;) I LOVE her little baby rolls! Mine is starting to grow out of hers and I hate it!

I like number 4, she looks like a present :) Also like the family pic!

Titles:

#1 Angels we have heard on high...
Above caption would also fit photo #4)

#2 How could you not have a Merry Christmas after seeing this?

#3

And now my creative juices have quit.

I like #4 & #6 best. She looks like a little walrus in #6. But only in a super cute baby way!

I think I like #2 & #3 the best. You need a card that allows multiple pictures because they are all just darling!

I might be in the minority but I love the pictures with her little tush in them! SO adorable! I think it's good to be a little funny in the holidays.
