Bounce Becomes Mama's Little Forget-Me-Not

I do laundry seven days a week. It's systematic, really. Get up, get dressed, nurse the baby. And throw in the requisite load of laundry for that day. Monday, it's diapers. Tuesday, it's the hubs' uniforms. Wednesday, it's sheets and towels. And so on and so forth. Honestly, you'd think I'd be a pro at it by now. I should know my washer and dryer like the back of my hand; I should be so efficient that I'd be able to operate a laundromat out of my own home, right?

Yeah, well, tell that to my husband who went to work last week in a stinky, yet fresh-out-of-the-dryer uniform, because yours truly forgot to put in detergent. Yes, it's true. I did three loads of laundry that day and forgot to add the detergent to every single one of them. Talk about a day wasted. But the fact of the matter is, these days, it's not surprising. I have a new baby, a giant dog, a part-time job, and a military husband who requires a lot of upkeep in the laundry department. (The man has more uniforms than Lady Gaga.) Lately, I'm liable to forget my head if it wasn't attached. Luckily, my baby's loud, or she might get left behind, too.

In other words, this sleep-deprived mama needs a few advantages - a few short-cuts, if you will - to keep her sanity and her laundry smelling good. Enter the Bounce Dryer Bar. Literally, all you do is stick it into your dryer and forget it. And while I'm wracking my brain trying to remember where in the world I left my car keys, the Bounce Dryer Bar is freshening my husband's uniforms quicker than I can say, "Oops! I forgot the dryer sheets!" Not to mention the fact that the bar repels dog hair - Did I mention that 100-pound black dog that sheds all over every fabric surface in our home? - which is basically a god-send for my husbands' dress-white uniforms and my sweet baby girl's pale pink onesies.

And speaking of that sweet baby girl, who has what can only be described as extremely sensitive skin, the Bounce Dryer Bar comes in a "free" option. As a first-time, nervous-Nelly mama, I am extremely happy there's a product out there that leaves her clothes clean, soft, and non-irritating. Thanks to the Bounce Dryer Bar, the whole family's now walking around in clothes that actually smell clean, while Mama over here only has to remember to replace her Bounce Dryer Bar every few months. Thank heavens for that. Now if they could only invent a similar way to dispense laundry detergent...

Soon after moving into my first house and having not bought normal sized containers of cleaning detergents, multiple little unmarked bottles of soaps were on a shelf above my washer/dryer. Not thinking, I grabbed one that looked like laundry detergent (spoiler: it was dish soap that hadn't made it to the kitchen yet) and put an ample amount in the washer before turning the machine on and leaving the room. A few minutes later I hear my cat (who is now terrified of bubbles) mewing from the next room and get up to check on him only to find a sudsy foam all over the floor of my laundry room. Oh, and the only way to get it out of the machine is to let it run it's course which only creates more suds. It was a fun day.

My latest laundry mishap was with cloth diapers! I rinsed them in hott water as usual but then when I washed them and I dried them and then realized I forgot detergent!! Ick! It was very nasty! Thanks for the giveaway!

I never use bleach, but my husband loves to use it on his whites. One of the first months we were married, I was doing a load of what I thought he said was his whites he threw in before heading to the hospital for him & added bleach to the dispenser ... Only as I went to take out the laundry at the end if cycle I realize it was full of "light" colored laundry - now even lighter & bleach spots! Whoops. Fortunately, most were just scrubs from hospital & tshirts, but I now search every item before putting bleach in the couple that require it!

I was baby-sitting for a family overnight for a few days while the parents were in Florida. I thought that doing laundry would be a nice gesture since they were returning on a Sunday and kids had school the next day. I decided to do a load of 20 pairs of the kids' khaki pants. One of the kids left a gel pen in their cargo pocket. By my simple gesture, I ruined 16 of the 20 pairs of pants. Did I also mention it was the beginning of the school year so these were new school clothes? Yikes.

My Dad had passed some weeks ago, and I got his old golf sweaters and other such items.

To make a long story short, I thought I could use bleach one of of them- turns out I could not.

What was once a nice cream colored sweater is not a nice bleached white sweater.

OK, so the comment from Josh was really from Lauren, I just forgot that I was logged into my husband's email account. It is ok to contact that email though if I end up winning.

Just one? Do you want to know about the times I've left gum in my pockets? Or kleenex? How about the time I left a pen in my pocket and found my dryer completely sketched up with ink afterwards? I spent hours basically in the dryer, scrubbing away with a Magic Eraser. Needless to say, I am no longer allowed to touch the laundry in our house, and B religiously checks my pockets.

Question. Are you using this with your diapers too? I always thought that was a big no-no so ever since Jamie was born I've nixed all forms of dryer sheets, even with our clothes, for fear of getting bad diaper buildup.

Susannah said...

Interesting. I've always wondered if these actually work. I hate when I forget to put a dryer sheet in, solely for the static factor! But, with two hairy doggles, this would be rad!

When we moved into our new home, one of the things on our inspection was to raise the pipe that the washer drained into. Not thinking much of it, we didn't ask the previous owners to fix it. Once after a huge cloth diaper load, the wasaher broke. The half clean half dirty cloth diapers sat in there until the guy came to fix our washer. It was the sensor that needed to be replaced. 3 months later (and one month past our warranty) the same exact thing happened. I was on the phone with the repair place and whirlpool throwing a hissy fit about how awful their washers are and that I'd never buy one again and luckily they extended my warranty to allow the repair to be covered. Since it happened twice, I wondered if I was doing something to cause it. I thought and thought and wondered if it was that pesky short pipe. I got some PVC pipe, extended it and low and behold, it never happened again. Sorry Whirlpool!

I thought fabric softener was a no-no for cloth too...

Laura said...

Jarrod is always leaving gum and chapstick in his pants...and I never check them. As for me...on more than one occasion now, I've used fabric softener instead of laundry detergent...so...that's fun. :)

just recently, my son failed to remove a pack of gum from his jeans pocket (of course HE didn't do it) and I didn't notice it until the DRYER beeped; yes; i was mad and yes he had to clean it up and hot vinegar and a brush helped remove it from the clothes and lots of elbow grease helped remove it from the dryer

thanks also for a chance to win!

Obviously this happened to alot of people but I am also guilty of the gum in the washer fiasco...holy nightmare batman

The worst was probably the pen that was left in my husband's pants pocket. Luckily it only hurt his stuff and not mine! It could have been worse, but I checked every pocket after that!

Hilary Lane said...

I'm pretty innocent when it comes to laundry blunders, but my dear boyfriend left his gel pen in the firehouse's brand new industrial dryer last year. Not only did it get over all of his clothes (that he wasn't supposed to be washing), but one of his buddies had to scrub the entire thing down with Goop to get the ink out. His Christmas bonus that year? A 2' jumbo pen. Pretty hard to wash that one without realizing it!

Amy said...

My laundry mishap? There were quite a few. hahaha...One time I left the washed clothes in the washer for a day and forgot to transfer to the dryer when they were done. And I had to rewash the whole thing as it smells really bad!
