I dream about having the perfect purse, with the perfect jewelry, with the perfect shoes, with the perfectly coiffed hair, with the perfect - yet invisible - make-up, all enhancing the most perfectly perfect dress imaginable.
I dream of being timeless, classy, yet understated.
And then I wake-up and stumble out of bed.
I realize that it's March and still freakishly cold, even for Florida.
I realize that four hours of tossing and turning doesn't qualify as a "good night's rest."
And I realize that all that tossing and turning not only ruined the spring in my step, but also did a number on my once-tamed tresses.
It's a rude, and realistic, awakening.
Because I've only got 15 minutes to make my Teacher Self presentable.
I've only got 15 minutes to get rid of Tired, Cranky, Bed-Head-Crazy Brittany.
So I grab the first dress, tights, and sweater I can find. Which may or may not match.
I throw some earrings in my lobes and a necklace around my neck. Which may or may not match.
And, waiting till the very last minute, I throw two shoes on my feet. Which may or may not match.
Then I skedaddle.
Off to my day.
Where, it has to be said, I give thought to my appearance approximately zero percent of the time.
Frankly, I'm doing good if I remember to zip and tie everything up when I leave the bathroom.
I simply don't have time to check my frizzing hair, my growing chin-zit, or the coffee stain on my left boob.
Which is why I sometimes leave the house wearing something like this...
Go ahead. Take another look.
It's a shoe. My shoe. My shoe, which my dog bit a hole out of almost two years ago.Classy, no? Takes casual footwear to a whole new level, doesn't it?
And yes, I totally wore it. To work. All day. Clearly visible for all the world to see.
I guess "having it all together" is relative, anyways.

Happy Thursday everyone!

Oh, now that is interesting!
I usually have one pair of shoes that I wear into the ground and then I buy another pair. Currently, I have two pairs...one black, one brown. So...you should see what those shoes look like when I finally declare them dead.

Haha I do the same things! if i didn't make the morning dummy proof the night before I would be even more a mess then normal!! Hope you have a good day!
At least you were wearing two of the same pair! Too funny.
This is classic...LOL! Did anyone comment on your choice of footwear?
That shoe cracks me up!
Don't be mad at me, but this made me laugh :) I too am the same way. Except mine are usually mismatched shoes. I can't tell you how many times I have come to work and my shoes are different :)
Hahaha...I promise I'm not laughing at you. I'm smiling because I have those days all the time and it's so nice to hear that someone else feels my pain!!! I bet no one even noticed. :)
That's too funny! And something I would totally do!! One day my friend and I were talking and she made some comment how appearance is VERY important to her and how it's not for me. At first I was kind of offended, but then realized it was true. I'd rather not spend two hours every morning on my hair and makeup when a wet pony tail and scrubs will work just fine!
LOL!!! I have SO done that!!! I work in a dirty warehouse, so I wear crap shoes to work like every day, and they are GROSS. But I keep telling myself that it's not my "real life" so it doesn't count. nice right?
OH!!! I was thinking last night...If you get a random box from Amazon and have no recollection of ordering anything from them - it's for you. just open it.
Ha…it looks like your dog had a nice snack of your comfy shoes. I’ve never been big on getting all done up for work. My hair is up in a twist everyday that I go into the office and usually still wet. My work clothes usually consist of black pants and a sweater. The only time I really get “done up” is if Geof and I are doing something exciting or if something big is happening at the office.
This makes me love you so much, because seriously, KEEPING a shoe that a dog has chewed up is totally something I would do. Most people would throw it away. Us? Nahhhhh...too wasteful. That shoe is still good!! ;)
hahaha! why do you still have that shoe??? :)
I love it! I am the same way some days! Those must me come comfortable shoes! I have a few pairs of shoes that are like that too! They are so comfortable and I can pretty much wear them with anything/everything!
um yeah gulity as well! I have clothes that have holes in them but i just try and hide the holes (or not don't really care) and wear them anyways..it's not that i don't contantly buy new clothes, it's just that i don't want to part with the old! i'm sure you look cute no matter what you are wearing or how dog designed it is!
Reason #3902850 why I love you...I wear dog-chewed shoes too. With pride. :)
I have held on to some cat-chewed shoes. Not that I can or should wear them anymore, but they are a good reminder that I need to be careful where I toss my shoes when I take them off!
I'm sorry, I'm laughing. But only a bit. I could have totally done the same thing.
The only good thing is we get to wear jeans and a school shirt. Every.day. Now, I just have to worry about my crazy hair.
haha, I *heart* this post! I do this all time! Glad I'm not the only one... I would love to look perfectly put together but that never happens...maybe someday I'll somehow get my act together! :)
Oh gosh that is way too funny!
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree! But just remember my rationale "together" doesn't mean happy. Thanks for carrying on a long held family tradition or at least a "52" year long tradition.
Love you.
haha!! That's okay having it all together is overated..and boring!! And look at what a funny blog post you got out of it! :)
i get it, when a shoe is comfy, you can't let a little dog damage kick it to the curb. bondi ate HALF my shoes in his first year of life. as in, one of the pair, almost all my pairs. so i had to salvage what could be done. repair.. OK. if they could be covered by pants.. OK. not really THAT bad? .. OK. good thing i have low standards on what is THAT bad :)
LOL! Love it and you too!!
Lol...I love your honesty and that wearing dog slobbered and chewed shoes is not a bad thing! :)
Ohh sweetie...you ARE amazing. I read your twitter...look at what an amazing teacher you are! Believe me, we ALL have these days, you will get through it! Sometimes, it's our imperfections that make us perfect! xo
That is just too funny! But if you're wearing slacks, you can get away with it!!!
love it! the good news is if life was perfect, there'd be nothing to blog about :)
Oh no! Yesterday was Wacky Wednesday at our school so you would have fit right in! Glad I'm not the only one who gets out of bed at the last possible moment!
You just made my day!
I am right there with you on the wanting to be one of those effortless people...
Funny post! :) Did you ever see the movie "In Her Shoes"? Great movie, one of my favorites. There's a scene wear she is off to a wedding in a hurry and gets in the car, then realizes her heel is broken. And she's yelling at her bf who's driving "Look! My shoe has a mouth! My shoe can talk!" I think I might do a post on my pathetic wardrobe soon. I seriously rotate three outfits for work. I love clothes, but hate shopping for them lately.
Hilarious. I do the same thing all the time with my heels. When we first got Tilly she chewed up all my heels. I don't have the money to buy new ones. We can chalk it up to being poor school teachers!
HAHA!! I love the story and the photo!! Made it all come together!!!
Oh Brittany, that's hilarious! Bad Marvin! Bad dog!
You don't have to have it all together, we love you just the way you are!
haha, oh my goodness, we don't have a puppy but I do go out of the house on many occasion and think please don't let anyone we know see me, ha!
a lot of my shoes look like that too, but not because i have a dog. because i guess i walk funny and my right shoe always gets worn out much faster than the left..and yet i continue to wear them. i wear the hell out of my shoes..as long as my feet aren't touching the pavement, they're still good shoes, no?
