So, I've been hearing for months that I need to buy my own blog domain.
That it's what all the cool bloggers are doing.
Darn peer pressure. And darn my bargain-lovin' heart.
Because when I learned it only cost $10 to buy my own domain from Blogger, I was sold. I figured it was a total steal; Ten bucks later, and I'd be the proud little owner of my proud little blog.
And then pride went before the fall.
Because every comment any of you dears left me, before what will henceforth be referred to as "The Change," was gone.
Vanished.
Poof!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually screamed. Aloud. Just like that.
Because my heart is broken, and my comments are gone.
My blog's gone brittle.
Hours after I made The Change, they'd all vanished. Every. Single. Comment.
Somebody find me a paper bag to breathe into.
And, quick! Somebody fan me! I think I'm having a hot flash!
So, yeah, my domain is all my own. Blah, blah, blah. Look up at your address bar and see it: www.brittsbeat.com. Blah, blah, blah. No more .blogspot for me. Blah blah blah. Isn't it awesome? Blah blah blah.
I wish I was more excited.
But I'm mostly just mad at Google and Blogger and the Internet at large, as the only tricks I know - refresh the page, restart my browser, and cry - aren't working.
And the Blogger Help forums are a) confusing me, and b) scaring the bejeebers out of me, as apparently worse things have happened to others when they have undergone The Change, and I'm wondering if it's catching.
So, needless to say, it's going to be a little hectic around these parts through the weekend as I figure out exactly what I've gotten myself into.
If you can offer any help or advice at all, I'd really appreciate it. And, heck, if you can just leave a comment, so I know that people can at least still comment, I'd be most grateful.
Everyone should be re-directed over to the new domain - no questions asked - within the next two days (if not already), but if you do have trouble accessing my blog (old domain or new), please send me an e-mail at britr@ufl.edu.
Thank you, in advance, for your patience! And Happy Thursday!
Updated to add: As of 8:23a.m. this morning, all comments have returned! Hallejuah! Thank you, Blogger! Turns out, it just takes a while to transition the old blog over. Which means I can now add one more skill to the list of tried-and-true Internet tricks I know how to do when things aren't working: refresh my page, restart my browser, cry, and BLOG ABOUT IT. Duh. Guess I should have thought of that earlier.

Bummer. :( I'm glad I read your blog though cause I was thinking of changing my domain name, but I would be so sad to lose comments. They are what keeps me going during those difficult days. I hope you are able to navigate things and that everything works out. I do think your own domain name is pretty darn cool. :-D
sad day :( I hope you get it all figured out!! I do like that your domain just changed itself in my google reader :)
Congrats on being official! ;) We've been talking about doing this, too. You scared me at the beginning of this post, but hurray that the comments have returned.
Sometimes, I go back through my blog archives JUST to re-read the comments. It's like a hug. :)
Congrats on your domain! I am also happy google reader changed it :)
Congrats! and woo! for your comments coming back! :)
Yeah! Congrats on your new adventure. I'm hoping to do the same, but I'm not very savoy when it comes to the internet and blogging, so I may hold out a bit longer.... :-)
Slightly stupid questions.....
Can you still post using the Blogger interface?
Do you still sign into Blogger?
How very good that your comments have found your new home.
I'll be watching to see if you are happy with this choice in the long run. Keep us informed, pretty please.

Why is it better to buy your own domain? And how do I go about buying mine?
hahaha - blogger is a very very scary tool. it makes me want to cry almost on a daily basis :)
Thank goodness you got it all back. I can't imagine losing all of the comments. That would be just awful. XOXO
whew i'm so relieved! you had me freaking out for you as soon as i read the words "all comments gone"! thanks for the update so i can breath again :) that is really cool..i might have to look into it but those things scare me b/c i know I will probably mess it up! good luck with all the changes!
Hooray for your new domain!
I want to do mine too, makes this Little Woman official. I'll have to go check that out! :)
Glad it's working!!!! But mine still says .blogspot....will that change?
YAY for the power of crying, mini adult temper tantrums, and blogging. I knew it would work.
I wonder what else I can get fixed this way.
Congrats on your new officialness. :)
So tell me friend, are there any perks to this new domain??
Very excited for your new domain...and glad you got all of your comments back! I would have been really upset too!
Congrats on the new domain! Glad everything remained in tact!
Congrats on your own domain. You're such a mature blogger. :) I think if my following every increases over 300 I might do the same - but I'll stick to the basics for now. I've only been doing this for about 4 months! :) Glad you got your comments back!
Yay! So glad all your comments caught up with you!
I have the same question as Jess... "Can you still post using the Blogger interface?
Do you still sign into Blogger?"
So happy everything showed up for you! That must have been a scary moment when you saw it all gone, let's hope you never have to relive that! :)
ahh id cry too if that happened to me... ill be buying my blog domain soon!!! i just have a goal of having 50 followers before i do that!!!
Thank goodness it all worked out! And thank you so very much for your super sweet comment on my blog! It's hard to be upset when I have such great friends (in real life and in bloggy life) being so sweet =) Thanks again, love!
woooo.. congrats!
SO glad that they are all back. Congrats on going through the change.
I would've screamed too! The comments are just as much a part of your blog as the things you've written!
Glad it all worked out!
I left you an award on my blog :)
I am glad that you got the comments back and that you have your own domain now!!
congrats! SO is it safe to assume that anyone with a .blogspot.com could do this? or only if the domain is available or depending on if the domain is available or what?
I would be lost if my comments were gone. Each one really means a lot to me and I’m really glad that you got them back! Yay for comments and your own domain.
Congrats! and glad that your comments are back...the new URL looks cool!
Yay!! Sooo exciting to have your own domain!!
